Editorial ~ Communications ~ Project Management
As a writer, educator, and social impact strategist, I help individuals and organizations tap into their potential to imagine beyond their goals. From helping a writer shape the narrative of a article to leading a nonprofit through a communications strategy, I use a personal and detailed approach to craft sustainable solutions.
I started my career in academia, learning optimal frameworks to engage audiences at the intersection of the public humanities and the nonprofit sector. I completed the PhD in English at the University of Michigan, where I studied twentieth-century African American literature and taught courses in the English Department Writing Program. My dissertation, Versing the Ghetto: African American Writers and the Urban Crisis, examines how writer Richard Wright and poet Gwendolyn Brooks of Chicago, pulp novelist Donald Goines of Detroit, and hip hop artist Master P of New Orleans responded to the post-World War II urban crisis through their depictions of residential space along intersections of poverty, policing, and public housing.
Since 2017, I have developed communications strategies and led public programs for such organizations as The Friends School of Atlanta, the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services (CASES), Cave Canem, and PEN America. Most recently, I received a certificate in Social Impact Management and Leadership with the Institute for Nonprofit Practice, and have additional certificates in content marketing, project management, and change management with HubSpot, Microsoft, and LinkedIn.
